Avery Versus Pins

I've loved teaching myself to embroider little pins.  I took inspiration from my favorite foods and the iconic Kenzo eye graphic.  These pins will be up on my etsy shop very soon.

Avery Versus Seattle

When my family came to visit me in Portland, we decided to take a little road trip to Seattle, Washington, approximately three hours away!  Traffic in the city was hell, but it was worth it.  The day was gorgeous - eighty degrees warm, clear skies, a light breeze, and full of art and life.  I loved the view from the Space Needle and the ferris wheel over the water, the inspiration behind the Chihuly garden and Glass Museum, and the liveliness of the city.

We didn't get to spend a whole lot of time in Seattle.  I'd really love to go back soon in order to experience more of what this lovely city has to offer.

Avery Versus Tulips

It has been forever since my last post but I thought that this was worthy of sharing.  Welcome to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, Oregon.  This tulip farm has just begun to blossom and just opened their festival to the public.  I don't know how many different kinds of tulips were there, but it was overwhelmingly magnificent.

The view from the first lookout was incredible.  The rows and rows of blooming tulips lit up the field.  I couldn't believe how vast and colorful the tulips were.  While I enjoyed the farm, it was a little muddy due to the Oregon rains in the last few days.  My boots were (and still are) totally caked in dense, mushy, mud.  But that didn't stop me and my family from having a wonderful time and falling in love with the farm.

My favorite tulip of the day was the Fantasy/Parrot Tulip.  The color combinations in the flower were unbelievable and even better when seen in person.  The petals are so delicate and seem as though they were shaped by the winds.  Some of them were wilting a little, but even that did not detract from their whimsical beauty.  I wish I could have taken them home with me to plant in a windowbox.  But I will settle for the Mt Hood Muscari I bought for now.  Hopefully I'll update on its growth.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit this tulip farm or anything like it, please do.  After visiting, I am inspired to visit Holland and frolic in those fields too.
